Making bread….

I got a new dutch oven recipe book for my birthday. I had to try making bread. It worked great but next time I have to cut the recipe in half…….

Ripping up the deck.

It was finally time. The surface of the deck needed to be replaced. During the heat of the weekend, Stephanie and I started the “destruction”. It only took a couple of days but its going to look done when it’s done….including the 3 1/2 extra feet.

Fun with Jenda Paddle Sports

Stephanie and I decided to try something different this weekend. A quick check on the web and we found that our local guy was having a SUP (Stand Up Paddle boarding) class. The weather was great and so was the instruction from Jason, the owner of Jenda Paddle Sports was very informative. Stephanie only fell off about 3 times while I fell at least 6 times. Actually I stopped counting after 6. The course was held at the Baxter Conservation Beach.

My favorite Canada Day Picture.

4 generations of Camp Opemikon

4 generations of Camp Opemikon

This is one of my favorite pictures from Canada Day. The two Paramedics never met each other until the were both assigned to work the Barrhaven Canada Day celebrations. But both of them knew the organizer Darrell B. I know all of them! What do we have in common? We are 4 generations of Camp Opemikon Staff and Rover Crew Members. It is a small world.

Its Canada Day 2015!!

DSC_0163An early start to the day for both of us this year. The weather could have been better, but all in all it was a great day. I worked in the Rural areas while Stephanie manned the Office of Emergency Management office.

A very busy weekend.

This was a very busy weekend. At least 28 hours of overtime for me. This weekend Ottawa hosted 2 very big concerts. Shania Twain and Escapade. Over 25,000 people enjoyed the Shania concert at Wesley Park. A first time with this venue. The second concert was Escapade held at Rideau Carleton Raceway. This 2 day Electronic music festival always takes a lot of planning. All the clients at both concerts had a great time.

Relaxing at the campsite

imageWe enjoy camping at Higley Flow. This weekend is no exception. Even Ben gets into the spirit by sitting next to the campfire and relaxing.

Dessert for 12….

imageIt was a great weekend! I went up to Camp and catered for a group of only 12. The group brought together 2 of my favorite Groups, the MedVent and the Rover Crew. Pancakes, French Toast, Grilled Cheese and Brownie Sundaes. Catering for so few brings back the memories of the good old days.

May Long Weekend 2015

Where else but at Higley Flow State Park. We know we keep going to this park, and people ask us if we are getting bored going to the same place all the time. The answer: Yes and No. It would be great to explore other areas of the Adirondacks, but this place is well kept, clean, quite, and it has virtually no bitting bugs!! The daily visit by Mr Ding-a-Ling in the ice cream truck make it even better.

We headed out on Friday afternoon, stopping at our favorite store “Price Choppers” (they offer gas rebate points). Only to see that many of our closest friends had the same idea. The parking lot was jammed with RVs and 5th wheels.

We arrived at Higley Flow and set up on our campsite. #19, for the first time. It adjacent to the shower house.

The weather was great for the entire trip. No rain, scattered cloud, and warm. Monday was the warmest. 30c.

Ben watching over our food. Not sure if we should trust him.....

Ben watching over our food. Not sure if we should trust him…..

A quick stop to see Alice. She works at the duty free store on the American side. You know you go in too often when she already knows your name, and license plate number…..And as soon as we walk through the door she addresses us as Mr and Mrs John.

The border crossing into Canada was delightfully short, only 5 minutes.

Now sitting here on our porch, watching Ottawa get hit with thunderstorms, we continue to relax…….until work tomorrow……
