Two jobs for today. Laundry and firewood. We were successful with the laundry, but the wood….4 pieces for $6US or 12 pieces for $14US. Way too expensive for us! The weather continues to be great.
September 22, 2019 – Hammnassest State Park
It’s the last day of summer, but we are very lucky. The weather has forgotten to change. We are hoping that the temperatures this week stay in the 25c range. This will allow us to enjoy our “summer holidays”. We left Green Gate campground at 09:00 and arrived at Hammonassest about 13:00. Travel was mostly on the interstate. The campground is located next to the 2 mile long Hammonassest Beach. Our section is devoid of trees, but we have made it comfortable by deploying our sun shelter. WE had spaghetti for dinner, followed by a sunset walk on the beach.
September 16, 2019 – Brattleboro, Vermont
Our home for the next 3 nights. On our way south from Robert Moses State Park, we made a stop at the Waybury Inn, Vermont. For those who are not TV sitcom watchers, the Waybury Inn was used as the facade for the Stratford Inn on Newhart show, starring of course Professor Proton…I mean Bob Newhart. I remember watching this show religiously.
We are staying at the Kampfires RV Park. There are two nice things about this place. We were in a section of our own, site number C5, and there were no seasonal campers. There is nothing wrong with seasonal campers as long as the campsite has requirements on the amount of “stuff” they can accumulate on their sites….and sometimes the age of their trailer.
September 15, 2019 – Robert Moses State Park.
Its been a great couple of days days here at Robert Moses. Spent a lot of time visiting the Bevins. We enjoyed every minute. Tomorrow we are heading to Brattleboro, Vermont.
September 13, 2019 – Robert Moses State Park
It’s Stephanie’s birthday and we are staying at Robert Mose’s State Park, site 55. We are officially on holidays! We are meeting up with some friends from Higley Flow State Park. It will be a great weekend!
July 29, 2019 – Higley Flow State Park
Another great day at the park. i still have not been able to sleep in, so I headed to Potsdam to do a little grocery shopping. I decided I wanted to “beat the rush” so I had breakfast at the Village Diner. Food was good but pricey. When I returned to the Park, the beach was calling me. The water was perfect, warm but cool enough to refresh. Dinner tonight was pizza done of the campfire. That was the first time I remember doing that.
July 28, 2019 – Higley Flow State Park
I missed a couple of rain showers on the way to Higley Flow, but by the time I arrived all the rain had stopped. Set up the camp, helped the couple back up their rig onto site 20, then went for a swim. The water was great! Cooked dinner during a thunder and rain shower. Tonight will be a comfortable night for sleeping with the windows opened.
July 20, 2019 – Fickling Family Picnic
The weather was hot and humid, but the company was great and so was the food. This was the 7th annual Fickling Family picnic, held at the farm of Cindy and Gary Fickling (my cousins). We had an excellent time!
July 18, 2019…just another day…
I woke up this morning not feeling day older. It was hot again this morning, but that did not stop me from starting the fire and cooking one of my favourite meals….eggs, bacon, and toast. I took it easy around the campsite, reading my book, relaxing, until my dinner gusts arrived. We had chicken and potatoes over the campfire and finished it with a hamburger shaped cake with ice cream. A very good day…..
July 17, 2019 – It looks like a rain day
Woke up to the steady sound of rain today. Checked the radar and forecast and it looked liked a day for indoor activities. I lounged around until about 09:30, then I made may way to the St. Thomas Railway Museum. The building and exhibits were really interesting. It made me feel a little old though, because as I read the descriptions on the rail cars and I discovered that they were built or retired in the 1970’s….and they are in a museum….and they are considered “old”….I was born in 1964…. After the museum, I headed into to London and caught the movie “Aladdin – the live version” It certainly met my expectations. ON the way home I swung through St Thomas to pick uo a couple of geocaches. The heat/humidity made it a more challenging. I was only successful on one. Time to head back to the campsite for a swim and a campfire……
It may be hard to tell, but the “brick mural” depicts the collision between a locomotive and Jumbo the Barnum and Bailey elephant in St Tomas. Unfortunately, Jumbo lost in the encounter.
