October 21-25, 2021 – Sandbanks Provincial Park

We finally made it to Sandbanks Provincial Park. 4 nights on Site 37, across the road from the beach.

Mickey Mouse Pumpkin – Our entry into the Pumpkin carving contest

September 12-13, 2021 – Bronte Creek Provincial Park

We were given Site 127. It was not bad at all. This park is in the middle of the City. A very interesting concept. It is surrounded by a berm, then residential houses on the other side. We celebrated Stephaine’s birthday at this site. Unfortunately, Ben would not allow us to go out and have proper dinner. We did enjoy campfire fish/chicken tacos and campfire baked cupcakes for dessert. Ben is always happy to help with present unwrapping. Again we had a little rain, but the campsite stayed dry for the most part.

September 10-11, 2021 – Darlington Provicial Park

Darlington Provincial Park, located near the Darlington Energy Facility, the Darlington Incineration Facility, the shores of Lake Ontario…and less than one km from the 401. We were initially slated to take site #230, but we quickly discovered the slope on it was not conducive to our trailer. We were able to change to site #266. This will be the first time this year we camped without electricity. The weather was reasonable, with a little rain. The trails and scenery were great.

September 9, 2021 – Charleston Lake

We couldn’t wait to start our yearly adventure. A quick check on the Ontario Parks website and we were able to get a site at Charleston Lake for the night. Site 232 was not a bad site in a once, but I would not recommend it for any length of time. The good thing about it though was it was right next to the beach. This year is going to be a little different for us. We will be travelling with Ben. He’s almost 15 now, and has some health challenges that we did not want to burden our dog sitter with. Only a few spots of rain here and there. I was able to get what might be my final swim of the season in. The water was VERY refreshing!

October 11-12, 2020 – Charleston Lake Provincial Park

A last minute decision…..After spending 3 nights at Ferris Provincial Park, we decided decided to spend one more night out for the 2020 season

September 23-25, 2020 – Brent Campsite – Algonquin Park

Brent Campsite – A very cool place. Wrought with history. We were the only “big” rig in the campground. The drive in to the site was VERY dusty. 41km’s of dirt road

Day One – A little rain and certainly some bugs. Blackflies…who would of thought. We set up the site and hiked the 3km history trail brining you to all the parts of the Brent site.

Day Two – Good book reading and an additional hike to the “other side” of the Brent Campground. We also did the Brent Crater trail. It was cool.

September 21-23, 2020 – Kiosk Campground – Algonquin Park

Ahhhhhh…Kiosk Campground. Its been ages since we have been here. And we can’t wait until we can get back. We landed on site 08. Site 05, was what we originally booked, but after the big rain, it was a bit of a mud hole. The staff was very helpful about us changing locations. Site 09, the one beside us was THE site to have though.

Day One – The weather was really nice. Warm and sunny. The views just as good. A little bit of hiking and a lot of book reading. It was warm enough we stayed out long enough in the evening to watch the stars and have a campfire. (Future booking…site 09 is awesome.)

Day Two – We decided to rent a canoe and take a tour of Kioshkokwi (Kiosk) Lake, collecting the only geocache in the area. It was under a rail bridge on a portage between Kioshkokwi Lake and Little Mink Lake. Again the weather was great. We stopped at one of the camping sites to have lunch. When we returned, we decided to do a little hiking on the trails.

September 17-20, 2020 – Marten River Provincial Park

A beautiful day of travel. It was sunny and somewhat warm. We stopped at Sturgeon Falls for lunch and to do a little shopping for food.

The site we picked turned out to be quite the site (site 75). It was big, and very secluded.

Day 2 – Another cloudy and cold day. we stuck around the campsite, but took time to make sure we did a walking tour of the campsite and logging museum. Today, we had fun feeding the squirrels and blue jays peanuts.

Day 3 – A trip into North Bay to do some laundry, get more reading material and pick up some last minute provisions so we can start our our trip in to Kiosk and Brent. No electricity and no cell service. It will be quite the change.

September 14-16, 2020 Sturgeon Bay Provincial Park

The drive was only 60km to this park. Arrived about 13:00. It is a nice little park nestled on Sturgeon Bay (part of Georgian Bay). The park is old, so the roads a very narrow. We had a little bit of a challenge negotiating turns and backing into our site. The site was large enough though. The recent rains has made the area quite muddy in some places. The day has been cool but sunny, a high of 14, with some wind off Georgian Bay. We set up camp, then walked the entire site.

Day 2, Cloudy and cool again today. We decided to go for a drive to see what “is around the area” Well there wasn’t much, but there was beautiful scenery. We were able to find one geocache in the area. We also came across Pointe-au-Baril-Station, and The Archipelago, two small villages in the area. We purchased some homemade bread for dinner. While in Pointe-au-Baril-Station, we saw the strangest thing. They were using an outboard motor to push water from a ditch through a culvert. I guess to drain the ditch?

Day 3, It’s sunny and warmer today. A high of 18c, 21 with the humidex. This is the way fall camping should be. We just hung around the campfire, reading, puzzling and puttering. Tomorrow we head to Marten River Provincial Park.

September 11-13, 2020 Perry Sound KOA

SUN FINALLY! It’s been awhile since we have seen that. It actually hit 17c today! The XXXkm drive went without a hitch. We arrived 12:00. Why pick a place so close to the last? The KOA was the only site around that had availability for the weekend. The other Provincial Parks around were fully booked. The sites in our area were spaced out nicely and rather level. The staff were great, and the entire place was clean. Although we did not take advantage of it, the pool was opened and heated.

Day 2, we took quick tour of Parry Sound. I thought it was a lot bigger than it was. We did a couple of geocaches, then headed back to the site. We managed to stay in-between the major rain storms and only got some sprinkles.

Day 3, September 13, Stephanie’s birthday! Pancakes and sausage for the birthday breakfast. Cloudy, cool with a chance of rain….AGAIN….Back into Parry Sound for lunch at the Trestle Brewing Company. In this COVID world, all their seating was outdoors. We had the cheese platter and Dirty Bird sandwich. Did some additional touring around the waterfront area and returned to the campsite for a campfire and some reading. I baked some chocolate turtle brownies for Stephanie’s “birthday cake”
