After spending 12 great days with my parents in Progreso, Stephanie and I headed out to the Caribbean coast for a couple of days before heading home. We will be mostly taking it easy, but hope to get out to Isla Mujeres and spend a day there.
The 8th Annual Spay / Neuter Clinic in Progreso Mexico
Our second stop while on vacation. We were able to start our vacation a little earlier to include this awesome event. Over the two days we volunteered for the Vets of Planned Pethood International who were able to spay / neuter over 750 cats and dogs. They do this for free! All the animals are given a full exam and shots.
Colonial Williamsburg, a favorite of ours.
Today we visited Colonial Williamsburg. This is a favorite spot for us. The attractions are spread throughout a pedestrian mall downtown (Colonial Williamsburg). Its like our Upper Canada Village, but based in the 1770’s. You stroll around the streets as period “actors” recreate the atmosphere of that time. At the end of the day Stephanie received the key to the…..kitchen…..at the Wetherburn’s Tavern. It is a valuable key because at the time the meat, spices, and produce were the most expensive things.
Mount Airy or as its better know as, Mayberry
Oh my gosh, we had no idea!! As we drove to our next destination we came across the Andy Griffith Parkway…which lead to Mount Airy. Stephanie did a quick Google search to find out that Andy Griffith was born in Mount Airy, VA. The show which was recorded mostly in California, did have a sound stage in Mount Airy. We were able to drive among the streets a little but we couldn’t find a convenient parking spot with the trailer. If I had a choice I would go back. These pictures were taken from the internet….
Fancy Gap, VA
Fancy Gap, VA KOA, this was certainly a diamond not yet discovered by us yet. It just happened to to be midway from Chattanooga and Williamsburg. We both agreed that we should have stayed here for a couple of days. Located on a side of a hill on the Blue Ridge Parkway, the site was awesome.
The Lodge Cast Iron Cookware Factory Outlet
The Lodge Cast Iron Cookware Factory Outlet, South Pittsburg, TN. The first stop for today. This is the Factory store. Unfortunately they don’t offer tours of the foundry on a regular basis. The next time will be durung the Corn Bread Festival in 2017. We might just have to come back.
A couple of rounds of the store and we came out with 1-pot, 1-frypan, 1-casserole dish, 2-fry baskets, 1-trivet and 2 carrying cases. Stephanie had to push me out the door…..
Visiting Georgetown, SC.
Did you know its closed on Sunday? We didn’t. As you can see from the first picture we knew what they do when they are closed. We have visited Georgetown before so it was no big deal. This is an area that floods very easy. Its around 6 inches above sea level. A little geocaching and a stop for some ice cream before heading back to the campsite. Also called my Mother. It’s her Birthday today!!
The Shenandoah Mountain Range – Southern End
We woke up to another very foggy day. It was going to be quite an adventure transversing the southern end of the Shenandoah Mountain Range. The slow drive finally brought us to Wilmington KOA, NC. It was a great stay. It even had a pool.
Night 2 – The Shenandoah Mountain Range
The Shenandoah Mountain Range and the Skyline Drive. This was the year we took a little detour and decided to try the Skyline Drive. Starting in Front Royal, Virginia it goes south for 105 miles. Our second night was spent in the Loft Mountain Campground. With the low 5c the heater actually came on……
