Boston, MA

Boston bound….at least for the day. We were originally challenged to find a parking at a subway station, but third time a charm. On the Red Line to Downtown Crossing. We walked to the the Boston Commons and to the visitors centre. We purchased our passes for the city View Hop on, Hop off Trolley. Stopping at the Boston Harbour, we visited the Quincy Market and enjoyed lunch at the Ned Devine Irish Pub. Back on the trolley to hear more history of the area. After doing the full loop we wondered towards the place that inspired the TV series CHEERS. With pictures and souvenir shopping done we walked to find the 2017 finish line for the Boston Marathon. We both “crossed” the finish line. Actually we jay walked across the street at the painted pavement. Back to to the Red Line for a veery “squishy” trip back to North Quincy where we parked the truck.

Plymouth Rock, Plymouth, MA

Stephanie has a head cold so we will slow down a little. Today we went to Plymouth to see the Plymouth Rock. John’s reaction was priceless! He started to laugh openly in public. “That’s it??” He was expecting a grand outcrop of a rock formation to showcase the landing of the Mayflower in 1620. Instead there was a rock in the base of a small enclosure. The rock, no bigger than a SMART car. We walked the town and headed back for a steak supper and campfire.

Cape Cod.

Off to Cape Cod. All the way to Provincetown at the very tip of the Cape. A great day to explore the town and places in between. The last time we were here was during our honeymoon – 20 years ago! On our return we witnessed a cruise  ship, the Viking Sky as it was transiting the canal between the island and mainland. The ship was just commissioned in February 2017. It is apparently very rare to see a vessel go through the canal. The bridges in the area have little clearance for such cruise ships. There have been collisions before with masts scrapping the bridges…..as we were told by the locals.

The next stop.

We wanted to extend another day but it meant moving sites….A quick call to the Boston / Cape Cod KOA and we were on the move. An easy travel day arriving around 15:00 . We were assigned site 245. Before a spaghetti dinner we took a walk around the park. Lots of campers watching their Sunday football games….

QueChee, Vermont

Woke to rain this morning. We had a nice breakfast and went to explore the area. We started at the Sugarbush Farm. Sampled cheeses and maple syrup. Then to Billings Farm and museum. The farm is historic. It was quite the modern farm in its day. We went through the visitor and the 1890 farm house that had all the modern amenities including hot water, indoor plumbing and hard (from the lake) and soft water (rain water stored in the cistern). John attempted the modern version of bobbing for apples. We both participated in, and received “Pumpkin Bowling Champion” ribbons. We toured QueChee, Taftsville and Waterloo. Enjoyed a fantastic steak and cheese sandwich at Jake’s Market before returning to Price Choppers to get dinner. A great day but overcast. Tomorrow should be sunny and warm. We are contemplating spending an extra day.

The adventure begins…..

After a night at the OAPC Gala and getting home at 01:00….A few hours of sleep before we hitched up the trailer, packing the last few items for our 3 week trip to who knows where. We met our goal of being on the road by 10:00…..just. Our border crossing was at Ogdensburg, and we travelled some familiar roads while travelling through the Adirondacks, passing Saranac Lake and lake Placid. We entered Vermont at Chimney Point, drove up and over the Green Mountain Forest to just outside White River Junction. The trailer bumped around as we navigated many hills and curves. Everything survived. We set up at QueChee KOA, site 91. After setting up we went for dinner at the Public House. Awesome food! John had the fish and chips. Stephanie had the chicken schnitzel. Did some grocery shopping at the Price Chopper in New Hampshire. Tomorrow we will explore the gorge and the rest of the area.

The final weekend at Higley Flow – closed for the season

Our final weekend at Higley Flow State Park. A great visit with Phylis and Tony and we got to babysit Brody. The weather was ok, except for Sunday…rain, rain, and more rain.

After the long Canada Day Week…Great Canadian Sound Check, Canada Day, and WE Day celebrations were done Stephanie and i took a long weekend to do some camping. We headed to the usual spot, site 20 this time. The weather was quite interesting. Sun, sun, sun, then sploosh, a down pour. then back to sun. Accomplished during the weekend, 2 puzzles and 1 1/2 books read. It was nice.

First time out – Fairhaven State Park

What a great park. Easter weekend and we are camping!!!

The second part of the vacation.

After spending 12 great days with my parents in Progreso, Stephanie and I headed out to the Caribbean coast for a couple of days before heading home. We will be mostly taking it easy, but hope to get out to Isla Mujeres and spend a day there.
